Join a small group of 12 travellers for an exciting expedition cruise to explore Scoresby Sund, one of the remotest and least visited parts of Greenland on a luxury expedition vessel. Scoresby Sund is a region known for it’s towering icebergs, many the size of skyscrapers and steep-sided fjords carved by receding glaciers. We will encounter many icebergs, use landing craft to explore the rarely visited wilderness, sail through narrow fjords with walls that reach 2000 meters in height and visit a remote glacier.
An essence of this voyage is the shore landings. Travelling with an expedition leader and guide we visit different landing sites including the remains of ancient Inuit cultures and areas of pure scenic wilderness. We will visit the areas only settlement, Ittoqqortoormiit, home to 400 locals. Throughout the expedition, there will be opportunities to enjoy hikes in the pristine landscapes. It is a perfect trip for nature lovers, photographers and those looking to explore an untouched part of the world in a small, intimate group.

Day by Day
Our journey begins at the airstrip at Constable Point where you will already appreciate the remoteness of this part of Greenland. You will be met by the crew and transferred by Zodiac landing craft to Balto to begin your expedition to see one of Greenland’s most remote and naturally beautiful places. After an extensive safety briefing, we will set sail to explore the majestic Scoresby Sund where only a few have been fortunate enough to visit.
Days 2 – 6
Exploring Scoresby Sund
Our voyage will take us on an in-depth exploration of Scoresby Sund including a circumnavigation of Milne Island if conditions allow. Travelling with an expedition leader and guide, we will explore remote anchorages and launch the Zodiac landing crafts to explore different landing sites every day. We will sail through stunning fjords with 2000m high walls that drop straight into the ice-filled water below. We will encounter some of the biggest icebergs on earth and have lots of time to take in the stunning scenery both on the vessel and onshore.
We will drop anchor and go ashore and explore one of Greenland’s most remote settlements that is blocked by sea ice for 9 months of the year. The name Ittoqqortoormiit means ‘Those who live in the big houses’ and is currently home to a population of 450 Greenlandic people. It is a great place to explore to get a sense of the Greenlandic way of life. There is a small museum and you will meet friendly villagers on your way around the town.
Safely back in Constable Point after our voyage, we will enjoy a final breakfast together. We say our goodbyes and disembark in the morning after making new friends and sharing an incredible expedition micro cruise together.
Our exact route will depend on ice, weather conditions and wildlife. The places mentioned are just examples of some of the many sites this region of Greenland has to offer. We always strive to maximize your experience. Please remember that flexibility is the key to a successful expedition.
